19th July 2009

Gill and Dawn were at the highly anticipated Fair HAvens Hospice Great Pier Swim. The event is a 3k open water challenge starting from Jubilee Beach in Southend and ending up at Thorpe Bay Beach.

Last year’s event raised more than £33,000 and thanks to even more support from local water-based clubs providing sea marshals, the number of spaces for this year’s swim has been upped from 200 to 500 with all finishers receiving commemorative medals.

Training opportunities were available from the team at Tri N Swim W.E.L.L in Rochford, which boasts an ‘endless pool’.

The company will be donating £1 from every hour session booked by entrants of the Great Pier Swim back to Havens Hospices. Look back soon for full details of the amount we have raised for the charity.

The Rochford swimming club disabled star set a new S9 1500m freestyle short course British Record. She also broke the records for eight regional S9 freestyle short course records during the course of the gala at the Kingsmead Leisure centre in Canterbury, Kent.

Different Strokes Helping Cranfield

PARALYMPIC hopeful swim star Jo-Jo Cranfield will be making a big splash at the new Tri ’n’ Swim Well endless pool at Rochford.

Cranfield and Drake visited the facility at Unit One, Roche Close, Rochford, earlier this week — and company bosses Gill Kelly and Dawn Rolph have also given the 15-year-old one of their Blue Seventy swim skins to trial.

“We’ve told Jo-Jo she can use the facilities free of charge whenever they’re available at times to suit herself and her coach Doug Drake,” said Rolph.

“We’re a new company and aren’t in a position to help financially at this stage, but if there’s anything we can do to boost her career we’ll be happy to oblige.”

Cranfield’s mum Tina added: “Jo-Jo was impressed with the facilities and she and Doug will definitely be taking up their kind offer.”
