Helping The Cassidy Trust
02nd February 2016
The Cassidy Trust is a charity set up with the goal of Improving access to education to the underprivileged. One of its trustees is Dave Toney who contacted us last year as he set out on his journey to be able to swim a mile for the charity.
When we first met him Dave could only swim around 25 m.During our lessons together we discovered friendship, fun ,laughter and most of all Dave’s passion for his charity. With Dave’s enthusiasm and our experience we worked together in our pool to accomplish this goal. The sessions were split over hour long lessons with time to practice in between, we worked on breathing, leg kick, body position, arm recovery and the catch. Each lesson had one of these main focuses which we used to transform Dave’s swimming and enable him to not only complete his challenge but also gain enjoyment from his swimming.
We would like to congratulate Dave for completing this challenge , we are very proud of you .
The following is from a letter sent to us from Dave
Dear Dawn and Gill
I am delighted to tell you that I completed my one-mile swim in Jersey last Saturday .Marcella was there supporting me along with friends Chris and Soo who took photos and a short video you can see me finishing on : https://www.facebook.com/thecassidytrust .
I never would have imagined at the start of the year that I could swim 64 lengths of 25 metre pool particularly after I dislocated my shoulder in February. But my visits with you both over the summer made an enormous difference and I now am excited to get to the swimming pool and feel amazing when I get out I learned so much from you both and had terrific fun in the process. You are both extraordinarily skilled patient and encouraging.
My next goal is to focus on swimming 40 lengths of the pool 2 to 3 times a week and improve my technique and fitness further and so gradually reduce my time to complete 1 km. I will keep you up to date with my progress and hope to see you both again during the summer next year. In the meantime Marcella and I wish you both the very best for 2016.
With warmest wishes
Dr David Tony
